Unlocking the Science of Reading: Fundations Phonics Program at St. Luke’s

We are excited to introduce Fundations, our new phonics program for Kindergarten through 2nd grade at St. Luke’s! Designed to make learning to read, spell, and write fun and effective, Fundations uses a multimodal approach that aligns with the science of reading. This research-based program is designed to help students build a strong foundation for lifelong literacy skills.

Our teachers recently attended a conference focused on Fundations to learn the best ways to implement this proven method in our classrooms. The program’s structured, cumulative approach incorporates phonemic awareness, phonics, word study, and handwriting, ensuring that our students receive clear, consistent instruction that helps them develop the skills needed for independent reading and writing.

Fundations focuses on print concepts, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension, all while using engaging materials and techniques that keep students excited and actively involved in their learning. We believe this approach will not only help our students grow in their literacy skills but also foster a love of reading from an early age.

We’re thrilled to see the positive impact Fundations will have on our students’ reading and writing development, and we can’t wait to watch them grow as confident, independent readers!
